04/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 4 December, the European Commission adopted its negotiating mandate for updating the 2010 Framework Agreement on its cooperation with the European Parliament, based on the nine principles previously agreed between the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola (see EUROPE 13509/18). “This revision aims to strengthen joint political responsibility and ensure better dialogue, increased information flow and greater transparency between the two institutions”, said the Commission in a press release, adding that the future agreement must “fully respect the prerogatives of the two co-legislators, as defined in the Treaty”. The Council of the EU has warned that an agreement between the two EU institutions would go too far in granting equal treatment to the European Parliament and the Council (see EUROPE 13528/2). (MB)
