04/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On the evening of Tuesday 3 December, the leaders of the Western Balkans met for an informal dinner with the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the new European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Marta Kos. Little information was shared on the content of the discussions, but the leaders provided a general update on the progress made in terms of the various accession negotiations and on specific current events. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, raised the problem posed by the recent attack on a major dam in the country (see EUROPE 13536/9): “Regional cooperation must be grounded in good-neighbourly relations, which require mutual recognition and respect, accountability, and a shared commitment to peace”, he said on X. The Balkan leaders will return to Brussels on 18 December for the EU-Western Balkans summit. (IS)
