04/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – Thirty-six Greens/EFA, S&D, Renew Europe and The Left MEPs wrote to the President of the European Parliament on Tuesday 3 December calling on him to ban Knesset MP Amit Halevi from taking part in a conference at the European Parliament in Brussels the following day, in view of his “extremely worrying, dehumanising and even genocidal” statements about the Palestinians. “We ask you to take decisive action to protect the dignity and reputation of the European Parliament by rejecting Mr Halevi’s participation in the event”, stressed the MEPs. And they added: “There should be absolutely no place in our Assembly for hate speech or discrimination as defined by Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights, which is also firmly anchored in our Rules of Procedure and Code of Conduct”. Mr Halevi did take part in the conference. (CG)
