Brussels, 04/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 2 December, the European Commission launched a call for tenders to assess the “net climate impact of digital network infrastructures”. It seeks to “develop a new methodology to assess the positive carbon impact (handprint) of digital networks infrastructures”, with the aim of estimating the impact of specific components, networks or regions. “Due to the rapid increase of GenAI in the last 2 years, the environmental footprint of some components of digital infrastructures, in particular the data centres, has increased significantly”, explains the tender. This includes telecommunications infrastructures, data centres, “cloud services, platforms, including AI, Internet of Things components and devices”. The €200,000 tender is open until 27 January 2025. See details: https://aeur.eu/f/emk (IS)
