On Tuesday 23 April, with 417 votes in favour, 162 against and 25 abstentions, the European Parliament decided not to object to the delegated regulation presented by the European Commission, which offers EU farmers flexibility in complying with good agricultural and environmental condition (GAEC) standard 1. This GAEC concerns the maintenance of permanent grassland based on a ratio of permanent grassland to agricultural area.
Parliament is due to vote again on Wednesday 24 April on a set of rules simplifying the CAP, which have aroused anger within the ranks of the Greens/EFA and The Left groups in particular (see EUROPE 13396/10).
On Tuesday, the Commission also adopted a report on implementing the prohibition of unfair trading practices to strengthen the position of farmers in the food supply chain (https://aeur.eu/f/bwh ). Applying the legislation will help to ensure an ever higher level of protection for farmers and suppliers in a weak position. The evaluation scheduled for 2025 will provide an opportunity to consider whether the directive needs to be adjusted, concludes the Commission. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
