On Monday 22 April, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the US President, Joe Biden, discussed the “steadfast support” of the United States and the EU for Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression, according to the White House. “Sustained international support is vital to Ukraine’s fight for freedom”, added the American side on X.
On the same social network, Ms von der Leyen congratulated the House of Representatives on its bipartisan support for Ukraine, with the long-awaited adoption of the $60.84 billion aid package, which still has to be agreed in the Senate. According to the President, this is a “historic decision that will make a decisive difference”. According to the White House, this package will be “essential to help meet urgent needs on the battlefield of Ukraine”. $23 billion of these funds will be used to rebuild US weapons, stockpiles and facilities.
