23/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 22 April, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, announced two sanctions against Angelo Ciocca (ID, Italian) under Rules 10 and 176 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, having considered Mr Ciocca’s observations. On 27 February, Mr Ciocca interrupted a debate with the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde (see EUROPE 13358/14), brandishing a noose. The penalty is a reprimand. On 12 March, he interrupted a vote (see EUROPE 13390/20) by waving a red card and blowing a whistle, which led to a three-day withdrawal of his daily allowance and a six-day suspension of his participation in the activities of the plenary from 10 April, without prejudice to his right to vote there. As Mr Ciocca has not lodged an internal appeal, the sanctions are deemed final. (EV)
