23/04/24 (Agence Europe) – At the plenary session on Tuesday 22 April, MEPs adopted the provisional agreement on the directive governing the right to compensation in the EU by 584 votes to 3 with 14 abstentions. The text had been the subject of marathon negotiations with the Council of the EU lasting almost twelve hours (see EUROPE 13342/1). At the press conference following approval, the text’s rapporteur, René Repasi (S&D, German), was very pleased with the outcome of the vote: “This is quite an impressive result, and proves that our text is resolutely ambitious. We were lucky to have a Commissioner who pushed the issue within the Commission and Member States who had the courage to go beyond the EU Council's mandate”. The text will enter into force after publication in the Official Journal of the EU. (IS)
