41% of European fruit and vegetables contain pesticide residues, says PAN Europe

23/04/2024 (Agence Europe)The latest report from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on pesticide residues in food in the EU (2022 data), published on Tuesday 23 April, shows that 96.3% of samples did not exceed legally permitted levels. For the subset of 11,727 samples analysed as part of the EU co-ordinated monitoring programme (EU MACP), 98.4% of samples were within legal limits. The NGO PAN Europe is concerned that 41% of European fruit and vegetables contain pesticide residues. The data also show that of the samples analysed, 51.4% (6,023 samples) were found to be free of quantifiable levels of residues, 47% contained one or more residues at concentrations less than or equal to authorised levels and 1.6% (192) contained residues in excess of authorised levels.
