23/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 April, representatives of the European cycling industry published a manifesto setting out ten proposals for unlocking the full potential of this mode of transport. These proposals are designed to implement the commitments of the ‘European Declaration on Cycling’ (see EUROPE 13383/8). They would guarantee zero-carbon mobility in towns and cities, and create 2 million green jobs and economic growth by 2030. In particular, the industry is calling for cycling infrastructure in Europe to be doubled by 2030, for investment in cycling at all levels of governance, and for global leadership in bicycle standards and trade defence. It believes inclusion must be improved and poverty reduced in relation to transport. Its aim is to encourage the development of a ‘Made in Europe’ value chain for batteries used in light transport.
