Audiovisual media services – EU Court of Justice interprets time limit on television advertising spots

In Italy, Reti Televisive Italiane (RTI), which owns a number of television channels, broadcast advertisements for radio station R101, which, like RTI, is part of the Mediaset group. It contests the fact that the Italian regulatory authority (AGCOM) penalised it for infringing the rules setting a time limit for broadcasting advertising, since AGCOM’s calculation took into account the promotional messages for radio R101.
