15/02/23 (Agence Europe) – The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has identified some areas for improvement in the national supervision of Central Securities Depositories (CSDs) providing cross-border services, in a first peer review report published on Wednesday 15 February. National competent authorities (NCA) generally have satisfactory initial authorisation processes in place, but ESMA believes that there is room for improvement in some NCAs’ approval processes during passporting procedures when acting in their capacity as host authority. ESMA would like host country authorities to improve their cooperation with the home country authorities of CSDs providing services in their jurisdiction. It plans to carry out a follow-up evaluation in 2 years’ time to examine the level of improvements achieved on the basis of the findings and recommendations of this Peer Review.
