15/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – This year, vulnerable populations in Central America and Mexico will be able to count on €11 million in humanitarian aid from the EU budget. The European Commission announced this at the High-Level Solidarity Roundtable in Support of the 2023 Northern Central America Humanitarian Response Plans, which took place in Geneva on Wednesday 15 February. As part of this package, €3.5 million will address the humanitarian consequences of the violence, including displacement and food insecurity; €3 million will support education in emergencies and €4.5 million will support disaster preparedness activities to build local capacity in vulnerable communities. “The EU reaffirms its commitment to support those in need”, said European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič in a press release.
