15/02/23 (Agence Europe) – In a report published on Wednesday 15 February, Transparency International EU says that the MEP bribery involving Qatar is prompting members of the European Parliament to disclose their participation in events funded by third parties. Of a total of 321 declarations submitted in the first three and a half years of the current legislature, an impressive 103 (32%) were submitted in the two-month period after ‘Qatargate’ began. “This means that at least 53 MEPs have violated the Parliament’s code of conduct”, according to Transparency International. The organisation notes that the EPP had by far the highest number of event declarations overall and that 60% of S&D MEPs’ declarations were late, a figure higher than for any other political group.
