15/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission decided on Wednesday 15 February to refer Luxembourg to the EU Court of Justice for non-transposition of EU rules laying down technical specifications for warning and signalling weapons under the directive codifying the acquisition and possession of firearms (Implementing Directive (EU) 2019/69), says a statement. The aim of this directive is to strengthen the protection of public security by minimising the risk that warning and signalling weapons are easily transformed into real firearms. It requires Member States to ensure that weapons that are manufactured in or imported into the EU are checked to ensure they comply with the technical specifications laid down in EU law. Member States were due to transpose the implementing directive by 17 January 2020, but Luxembourg has still not done so properly, according to the European Commission. (SP)
