15/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – Aid to earthquake victims in Turkey continued on Tuesday 14 February with an emergency field hospital set up by a Spanish medical team that was deployed through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism. While in Gaziantep on the Syrian border, to witness the arrival of the first European aid plane to Syria (see EUROPE 13121/21), EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič wrote on Twitter to welcome this “solidarity in action”. In addition to setting up the hospital, the Spanish medical team deployed by AECID (La Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo) is helping to provide medical care in the affected area in Turkey, where one of the city’s two hospitals has collapsed and the other hospital has suffered damage. As of Wednesday, the provisional death toll in both countries was approaching 40,000. (AN)
