11/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission gave a brief summary to the members of the European Parliament Transport Committee on Monday 10 October on the repeal of the directive on the limitation of noise emissions from civil subsonic jet aircraft (Directive 89/629/EEC). This directive, which allowed exemptions for equipment registered in the national registers of Member States before its entry into force, was rendered obsolete in 2006. By that date, another directive had in fact introduced a complete phase-out for all noisy aircraft, including those already registered by Member States. The repeal of the Directive will be subject to a simplified procedure. Karima Delli (Greens/EFA, French), rapporteur on the dossier for the European Parliament, suggested that no amendments be tabled. (TM)
