11/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – As part of the European Week of Regions and Cities (see EUROPE 13039/9), MEPs from the European Parliament’s Committee on Regional Development (REGI) and representatives of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) addressed the European Commissioner for Cohesion Policy, Elisa Ferreira, on Tuesday 11 October. Once again, they insisted on the need for cohesion policy to remain long-term in outlook and expressed concerns about the possibility of these funds being transferred, notably to REPowerEU (see EUROPE 13037/31, 13038/10). They also regretted the lack of coordination mechanisms between the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and the Cohesion Policy 2021–2027. Finally, they called on the European Commission to ensure that the concept of “do no harm to cohesion” is used to assess the impact of EU policies. (HS)
