11/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – MEPs in the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) were informed on Monday 10 October of the positive atmosphere in the recently concluded interinstitutional negotiations (trilogue) on the proposed directive on consumer credit agreements in the digital age (see EUROPE 13022/16). Kateřina Konečná (GUE/NGL, Czech), negotiator for the European Parliament, said that each of the EU institutions had presented its mandate for the scope, consumer information, credit assessment, marketing, bank overdrafts and sanctions. The 2nd trilogue will be held on 26 October “and the last one, as I hope, on 1 December”, she announced, and reiterated that in view of the energy crisis and the economic crisis, it was very important for her to “protect vulnerable consumers from over-indebtedness, because they will be targeted” by risky credit offers.
