Russian invasion of Ukraine / Ukraine

G7 strongly condemns Russian attacks on population

The G7 leaders condemned “in the strongest possible terms”, on Tuesday 11 October, the recent missile attacks on civilian infrastructure and cities in Ukraine, recalling that indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians constitute a war crime.

We will hold President Putin and those responsible to account”, they warned in a statement issued after an emergency meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The G7 also condemned Russia’s actions at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant and the pressure on its staff. “This is another irresponsible escalation and we will hold Russia responsible for any incident caused by its actions”, he said.

The leaders also reiterated their call on the Belarusian authorities to stop facilitating the Russian war of aggression. “The announcement of a joint military group with Russia constitutes the most recent example of the Belarusian regime’s complicity with Russia.”, they said.

Recalling that it will continue to impose “additional economic costs” on Russia, the G7 pledged that it will provide Ukraine with the support it needs to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. “We look forward to the outcomes of the International Expert Conference on the Recovery, Reconstruction and Modernisation of Ukraine” on 25 October, the leaders added.
