11/10/22 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 10 October, MEPs on the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) approved by a large majority (68 votes in favour, 2 against, and 3 abstentions) the provisional political agreement with the Council of the European Union on the revision of the directive on transfers of funds (see EUROPE 12983/7). Reached in June, this agreement still has to be approved during the plenary session next week. The purpose of revising the directive is to make it more difficult for criminals to use cryptocurrencies for money laundering. Crypto-asset transfers will have to meet the same traceability requirements that apply to wire transfers within the framework of the anti-money laundering regime. Transfers to and from unhosted wallets are also affected. (AD)
