25/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 25 January, the European Commission decided to take Poland to the European Court of Justice for failure to provide notification regarding transposition of the 2014//26/EU directive on the collective management of copyright and neighbouring rights. The Commission has accused Poland of failing to respect the obligation of notifying the complete transposition of this text in to national law, despite the fact that the deadline expired on 10 April 2016. On the same occasion, the Commission announced that it was ending infringements procedures opened against Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Latvia, Portugal and the Czech Republic over the notification of national measures transposing the directive. It should be recalled that the 2014 directive sets out common standards for collective management bodies and the granting of multi-territorial licenses for rights for musical content. (SPj)
