25/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – It was only a formality but an important one for implementation of the Paris climate agreement. In Brussels, on Wednesday 24, members of the European Parliament committee on the environment endorsed (by 33 votes to 11 with 18 abstentions) the provisional interinstitutional agreement on the regulation establishing burden sharing between member states for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in sectors not covered by the EU emissions trading system (ETS), for the period 2021-2030 (see EUROPE 11941). This concerns transport, buildings, agriculture and waste, sectors that should reduce their emissions by 30% compared to 2005, as a contribution to the EU’s objective of achieving a reduction of at least 40% compared to 1990. Parliament will take a stance in February. (AN)
