25/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – In a press release dated Tuesday 23 January, the European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA) welcomed the proposal for a revision of the directive on port reception facilities for the disposing of ship waste. This is part of the “plastics" strategy presented by the European Commission on 16 January last (see EUROPE 11940). The ECSA considers that this text should help introduce greater transparency in the setting of prices applicable to waste produced by ships. Martin Dorsman, the Secretary general of the organisation, however, said that he was concerned about the possibility of unlimited ship waste disposal and that this revision would not be able to help discourage the reduction of this kind of waste.
