Ireland is threatened with high fines for failure to implement Court ruling on Derrybrien wind farm

Ireland must go back before the EU Court of Justice for a second time.  This time, it risks having to pay heavy fines for failing to carry out a 2008 Court ruling (Case C-215/06) which had condemned Ireland for having built the Derrybrien wind farm without prior environmental impact assessment, the European Commission announced on Thursday 25 January.

The wind farm comprises 70 wind turbines and is the largest in Ireland as well as being one of the largest in the EU in 2008.  It was built...
