Portugal taken before Court for continued breach of Habitats directive

25/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 25 January, the European Commission decided to bring action before the European Union Court of Justice against Portugal for not having designated special areas for the conservation of natural habitats and species that are part of the “Natura 2000” network (Habitats Directive 92/43).  Portugal was to designate seven areas in the Atlantic region by end 2010 and 54 areas in the Mediterranean region before mid-July 2012.  Furthermore, Portugal has...
