Charlie McCreevy announces proposal on European payments area

Brussels, 11/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - The banking sector admits that its 2001 promise on establishing a European payments area by 2010 cannot be kept. During a session of the French think tank, Eurofi (on Thursday in Luxembourg), Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy deplored this “disappointing news” and announced that, “later in the year”, he would launch a “legislative proposal” to ensure legal security with a view to setting up a European payments area.
