Commission does not have Swiss commitment for entry into force of savings tax agreement in January 2005

Brussels, 22/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner Frits Bolkestein is expected to inform the College and the Permanent Representatives of Member States on Wednesday of the failure of his discussions with the Swiss authorities on the matter of enforcement of the savings tax agreement. "We regret" that the Swiss authorities "were not able to make any commitments concerning a date when it will take effect", Jonathan Todd, the Commissioner's spokesman, said on Tuesday.
