Creation of tourism complex in Cascais natural park, Portugal, authorised without environmental impact assessment, is legal - Commission loses its case

Luxembourg, 07/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Portuguese district of Cascais has legally authorised the creation of the Ponta do Abano tourism complex, in the Sintra-Cascais natural park, although it has not carried out an environmental impact analysis. Cascais has not infringed European law or the environmental protection directives, European judges say.

The European Commission simply noted the highly sensitive nature of the area but did not provide "concrete evidence" that the Portuguese...
