Italian law granting temporary protection to Parmalat to be examined as soon as possible

Brussels, 09/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has announced that it has received official notification of the Italian law passed on 23 December 2003 following the collapse of Parmalat and will examine it to determine whether it respects state aid rules. The law sets out a special insolvency code giving big companies temporary protection and enabling Parmalat to be put in state hands while preparing a rescue plan.
