EP wants end to using antibiotics in animal feed by 2005

Brussels, 22/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - Thursday's adoption of the report by Hedwig Keppelhoff-Wiechert (CDU) saw the European Parliament modify certain provisions in the proposal aiming to ban four antibiotics still used in animal rearing feed. This ban will apply from 1 January 2005, whereas the Commission had proposed 1 January 2006. The Parliament has also strengthened provisions on coxydiostases (antibiotics used as food additives for controlling poultry illnesses) by limiting their use...
