Wim Duisenberg attempts to reassure the markets about monetary policy and the cut in interest rates

Brussels, 29/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - The President of the European Central Bank (ECB) Wim Duisenberg has clarified the ECU's recent decision to lower its main interest rate by 25 points. At a meeting of the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee on Tuesday, he made reassuring noises about the introduction of Euro notes and coins on 1 January 2002 but did not manage to head off the scepticism of a large number of MEPs on the ECB's refusal to provide citizens with Euro...
