Rangoon, 30/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The EU Troika at senior official level had a two-hour meeting on Tuesday with Aung San Suu Kyi, Burmese opposition leader, at her home. The Burmese Junta, which, requested by the UN, opened talks with the opposition last October, is linking the pursuit of the dialogue with the EU to the lifting of European sanctions. The Swedish Presidency in Bangkok has, meanwhile, regarded the lifting of sanctions as "somewhat premature at this stage".
