EP approves new Social Agenda, calling for it to be strengthened, especially through legislative initiatives (but dropping certain demands of the rapporteur)

Strasbourg, 26/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament largely followed its rapporteur, Belgian Socialist, Anne Van Lancker, by approving the new Social Agenda proposed by the European Commission, some aspects of which it wants strengthening. However, it does not go as far as the rapporteur on the establishment of the right of each citizen to an income, a pension and a minimum wage, simply asking the Commission (EPP amendment) to back the efforts of Member States at guaranteeing...
