Brussels, 22/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided not to raise objections to the compensatory aid Italy grants to tobacco producers who have suffered severe losses due to an outbreak of the Potato Virus Y in 1997. This aid, which is part of a regional programme for the control and eradication of the disease, will be granted to farmers who have suffered losses of at least 30% compared with their usual production. It will not exceed 100% of losses really suffered.
