EU approves "double zero" agricultural agreement with Estonia, first of nine agreements negotiated with Central and Eastern European applicant countries

Brussels, 23/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council this week approved the regulation implementing the agreement negotiated between the European Commission and Estonia with a view to further liberalisation of agricultural trade by the time the country joins the EU. The regulation will take effect on 1 July. Estonian Foreign Minister Toomas Hendrik Ilves welcomed the Fifteen's decision, stating that the agricultural trade system between his country and the EU was now "fairer". According to...
