Economic and Social Committee suggests innovative policy for regulating automobile traffic in urban and suburban areas

Brussels, 11/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - With the unanimous adoption, during its last plenary session, of an own-initiative opinion presented by Bill Tosh (Employers, UK), the Economic and Social Committee recommends, in order to face up to the negative effect of automobile traffic in urban areas, selective application of private car road and parking space user charges in areas experiencing intractable congestion or server environmental degradation.
