ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) pharmaceuticals

Belgium's OMEGA PHARMA has bought 65% of the French firm PHARMYGIENE-MEDIPOLE (turnover of FRF 611 million in 1999), specialised in the production of over-the-counter drugs and cosmetics. OMEGA is preparing to launch a public takeover bid on the remaining capital. The Belgian group will spend a total of around EUR 44.6 million for 100% of PHARMYGIENE. With this acquisition, OMEGA PHARMA will have annual turnover of over FRF 1.3 billion and a workforce of 800.
