Brussels, 11/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - The category based exemption regulation to the competition rules in favour of agreements between motor vehicle manufacturers and their dealerships is far from answering the objective for which it was established, announced, on Thursday, the Commissioner for Competition Mario Monti.
According to the preliminary results of a study by the Commission services that will be published at the end of the year, the regulation did not: i) strengthen the interdependence of the dealerships, ii) ensure the dealers better access to spare parts, iii) improve the position of independent garages in the after sales services market, iv) create the internal market for consumers.
This study will be the basis of a Commission decision on the renewal of this regulation that expires in September 2002. EUROPE will return to these declarations by Mario Monti.
