Having doubts as to the legality of the merger between two American telecoms giants MCI WorldCom and Sprint, European Commission opens in-depth investigation

Brussels, 21/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is initiating an in-depth investigation into the merger between two American giants in the Internet, MCI World Com and Sprint. The procedure, undertaken in cooperation with the American anti-trust authorities will lead to a decision by July. Reflection of large manoeuvres of worldwide restructuring in the telecommunications sector, the MCI/Sprint merger represents between $115 and 130 billion and, dimension-wise, comes right...
