In the United Kingdom, DAIRY CREST (turnover of GBP 774 million for 1998-99 with 3,850 employees in 11 plants) has bought the milk and cheese division of fellow UK firm UNIGATE, doubling its presence in this sector. The acquisition will take place via the issue of 75.7 million DAIRY CREST shares, or the equivalent of GBP 121 million. The division represented turnover of GBP 749 million for 1998-99, or one third of UNIGATE's total turnover.
