Brussels, 21/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is expected to adopt, on Wednesday, its proposal for agricultural prices for the 2000/2001 marketing year, almost identical to last year, the main difference concerning a saving of EUR eight million which would be made through reduction of the monthly increase applied to storage in the cereals sector.
EUROPE recalls that the adoption of this proposal, initially foreseen about two weeks ago, had been blocked following a speech by Commissioner Michaele Schreyer who called for a saving of EUR 300 million on the agricultural budget in 2001 to finance aid in the Balkans. The solution envisaged for the budgetary question (see following article) must allow the go-ahead to be given to the price proposal.
