Brussels, 21/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved a first set of 165 projects on the environment and sustainable development. They will receive EU funding of EUR 207 million under the Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development Programme, which has an overall budget of EUR 2.125 billion for the period covered by the Fifth Framework Programme for R&D.
This first call for proposals concerned: (1) sustainable management and quality of water (43 projects selected for a total of EUR 63.1 million), (2) marine ecosystems (19 projects, 26.9 million), (3) climate and biodiversity (56 projects, 69.4 million), (4) city of tomorrow and cultural heritage (17 projects, 17.6 million), (5) generic activities -seismic and hydrological risks, earth observation- (17 projects, 13.8 million) and, (6) support for research infrastructures (13 projects, 16.1 million).
