EPP Political Bureau initiates proceedings to expel its Austrian members, but a large majority is opposed - Martens intends to make every effort to avoid expulsion

Brussels, 10/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - Three EPP member parties -the UDF (France), the IPP (Italy) and the PSC (Belgium, French-speaking)- have requested the opening of expulsion proceedings by the European People's Party of the Austrian ÖVP party further to the formation of a government with Jörg Haider's FPÖ. In accordance with the party's statutes, the EPP Political Bureau, meeting in Brussels, decided to initiate the proceedings. A final decision will be taken at its next meeting,...
