02/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – The Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) adopted, by 93 votes in favour, 4 against and 15 abstentions, on Tuesday 2 June, the provisional agreement on the so-called ‘digital omnibus’ legislative package, aimed at simplifying European rules on artificial intelligence (see EUROPE 13864/1), concluded between the European Parliament and Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in the early hours of 7 May. This step paves the way for a plenary vote scheduled for June. The EU Council will also still have to formally approve the text. Adoption of this legislative simplification package before the 2 August deadline was a priority for both co-legislators in order to postpone the application of obligations relating to high-risk AI systems and models until the necessary norms and standards are available.
