02/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – The leaders of the European Union countries could advocate, in cooperation with WHO and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the adoption of “urgent containment and response measures” to counter the Ebola outbreak, according to a draft of the European Council conclusions for 18 and 19 June, dated 1 June, a copy of which was obtained by Agence Europe. At Italy’s request, European health ministers will review this outbreak on Friday 5 June, after it broke out in Central Africa (see EUROPE 13878/8). Concerned by the global challenges linked to drug trafficking, the EU27 are also expected to stress the importance of an international framework for maritime and port security, and to call for “consistent action” by the EU vis-à-vis third countries that harbour drug traffickers on their territory and refuse to comply with their international obligations.
