Brussels, 12/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 10 March, the college of Commissioners approved the procedural steps required to enable the Commission to finalise the remaining legal and procedural formalities relating to the provisional application of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement, in accordance with the EU Council decision of 9 January, a spokesman for the institution said on Thursday 12 March. “The Commission will now prepare and send a note verbale to Mercosur (to Paraguay, the legal guardian of the Mercosur treaties). We cannot confirm the exact date for this yet”. So far, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil have ratified the agreement. Paraguay is expected to do so shortly. “Argentina has also already formally notified the EU, and the other Mercosur countries are expected to do the same soon.
