European Parliament calls for release of President Bazoum

Brussels, 12/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 12 March, with 524 votes in favour, 2 against and 29 abstentions, MEPs adopted a resolution condemning the repression of politicians, journalists and civil society in Niger since the military junta took power in July 2023. The MEPs are also calling for the immediate release of the “democratically elected” President, Mohamed Bazoum, and of all those detained.
