On Wednesday 11 March, the European Union and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria successfully concluded negotiations on Algeria’s participation in the ‘Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area’ (PRIMA) for 2025-2027.
The conclusion of these negotiations further strengthens scientific cooperation between Algeria, the EU and the 19 other countries taking part in PRIMA. It also reflects the shared priority given by both parties to sustainable development and prosperity through science and innovation. In addition, this renewed commitment to PRIMA underlines the initiative’s strategic importance in addressing global challenges, particularly in water and food security.
Once approved, this agreement will enable Algerian entities such as universities, higher education institutions, research centres, foundations, NGOs and companies to participate fully in PRIMA projects in 2025-2027.
In addition to the funding granted by the European Commission to PRIMA, Algeria is expected to contribute six million euros to the partnership over this period. (Original version in French by Anne Damiani)
