10/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – After a hearing with François-Louis Michaud, the European Parliament approved his appointment as the chairperson of the European Banking Authority (EBA) for a renewable five-year term—replacing José Manuel Campa of Spain—on Tuesday, 10 March, by a large majority (536 votes in favour, 50 against, and 29 abstentions). The latter had resigned for personal reasons (see EUROPE 13801/17). Previously deputy director general of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mr Michaud has been the EBA’s executive director since September 2020. He was vying with Cypriot Constantinos Herodotou, the former governor of the Bank of Cyprus, [for the position]. The EU Council still has to definitively green-light the appointment. (MB)
